On Saturday Jan. 6, on a rainy day in Toronto, 20 beautiful curlies from Toronto area (and beyond!) gathered at The Curl Ambassadors for a day of Jessicurl makeovers and demonstrations, question and answer sessions and LOTS of chatting about curls.
It was a blast! But how could a room full of 20 or so curlies NOT be fun? :-)

The owners of the salon, Betty and Caroline are both the sweetest, friendliest people you could hope to meet. They provided yummy snacks and the salon has the most wonderful vibe to it - SUPER cute but very friendly, welcoming and laid back. Just what you'd want in a curly hair salon. :)

The day started at 12 with a "meet and greet" that enabled all of the attendees to sit and chat for a while and get to know each other and Jess while the guests filed in. Four ladies even drove 2.5 hours to be there! Now THAT is dedication to the curls!
At around one Jess took the first demo model Nicky over to the sink to wash and condition her hair. Nicky had AMAZING curls to start with, making Jess wonder, "Uh, what exactly do you expect me to do to make them better??" :)

Then Betty and Caroline did something that was SO much fun- a Jessicurl trivia game, and each person who answered a question correctly got a Jessicurl product as a prize! How fun, eh? And let me tell you - these ladies sure knew their Jessicurl trivia! It was amazing. The only question that stumped the crowd was "what town is Jessicurl located in?" That's understandable, as not many people have ever heard of Arcata, and Jess generally just says Humboldt County anyway. But that was a really fun game and pretty much everybody won something. (well, Jess was ineligible :-)
Nicky been using Jessicurl for a while and has been a member at Naturally Curly since Jess started making hair potions in her kitchen 4 years ago, so it was really great getting to meet her and she's SUPER nice. She's a teacher, and she's EXACTLY the kind of person who you'd want to have teaching your kids. Jess then took her back out to the main room to style her hair while the others watched and asked questions. That was followed by a question and answer period to allow the guests to get all of their curly questions answered.
Here are Vivienne, Nicky and Leena, three of the lovely curlies who came to the event.

Here's Nicky after Jess did her hair. It looks a little damp still _ you know how long curly hair can take to dry!:-) Here hair was SO soft and in such good condition :-)
Then it was time to take Leena back to the sink and wash her hair for the next demo. She also had BEAUTIFUL curls - nice and thick and curly; about a 3B, according to the hair type system found here: Naturallycurly.com

During this time, one of the stylists at the salon, named Patience, was giving a hair cut to one of the attendees, Aimee. Aimee had great curls that were about down to her waist, and had it cut to about shoulder length. Patience did an AMAZING job on that haircut! So much that it made Jess start thinking, "Hmmm, I wonder if I could use a hair cut?" :-) Patience does an amazing cut, so if you live in the Toronto area I would really recommend her. Not to mention she's SO friendly and just puts people at ease instantly. There is NO reason to be nervous about a hair cut at this place! :-)

After that we did more question and answer, and a lovely curly named Cheryl was asking me what I thought would be good for her hair. There was extra time on the agenda, so Jess said, "Hey, you want to come back to the sink and let me do your hair?" She agreed, so Jess got to do another head of beautiful curls! :-)
And After.

After that everyone chatted some more while Caroline's ADORABLE curly daughter Bree passed around cheesecake and banana bread. How lucky is SHE to have a mom that owns a curly hair salon?? Bree has THE MOST AMAZING curls, which makes sense, given her mom owns the place. Not only is she adorable, but she's just the sweetest more friendly kid and Jess was really happy to get to meet her. Here is a picture of the adorable Bree:
One highlight for Jess was that her cousin Lori came too! She lives about 40 or so minutes away and since Jess lives in California I hardly EVER see her, so that was a real treat. Jess’s dad Moe was there too, all decked out in a suit.

At around 4 things started winding down and the guests began to leave, so Jess packed up, hugged all her new friends goodbye, and headed north to visit more family. Everyone had a great time and everybody’s curls looked SO great! All agreed that we’d have to do it again then next time Jess was in the area.

Here's one last picture from the day, of Jess and her well-dressed dad Moe. No resemblance there, eh? :-)

If you're ever in Toronto, I HIGHLY recommend you go in there for a hair cut, a style, or just to say hi to some of the most friendly ladies you'll ever meet. :)

Here are some more pictures of some of the attendees, most of whom had their hair styled by the staff at The Curl Ambassadors.
