Helping the victims of the Pakistan earthquake
“No Life’s worth more than any other, no sister worth less than any brother.”
--Michael Franti

The line above is basically the motto and guiding force of our Women Around the World program. When the Tsunami stuck last year, the world stepped up to help. When Katrina devastated our shores, you all pitched in with us to help the victims. Now I’d like to help the victims of the devastating earthquake in Pakistan.

As a young woman business owner, I am very aware of how lucky I am to be a woman in this country. I am allowed the freedom to own a business, keep my maiden name after being married, and I can wear whatever I feel like when I leave my house. Not all women of the world are afforded these freedoms, and the difference between them and us is simply a matter of where we are born. Our potential as women is basically left entirely up to fate, and this irony is just too strong for me to ignore. I don’t consider myself any more important than women in third world countries.

The earthquake struck Pakistan on Oct. 8, leaving millions of innocent people homeless. Winter is setting in and Mercy Corps is working hard to distribute winterized tents to families whose hillside homes were destroyed. Many of the villages are miles away from any real road and can only be reached on foot.

Thank you in advance for helping us help these people.
