Concerned About HeartBleed Security Bug? Your Jessicurl.com transactions are secure!

Mon, 04/14/2014 - 03:42 -- Jess

Hey Curlies,

Many web users are concerned about the OpenSSL security bug that was recently announced on sources like the LA times, Slate & NPR's Morning Edition.

This is a serious issue, and affected nearly all secure connections on the web. We want our customers to know that we have updated our systems to protect against this issue, and that the core eCommerce functions on our site never used the vulnerable OpenSSL library at the heart of this problem. You can be confident your transactions on our site are safe & were not vulnerable to heartbleed.

Feel free to ask us any questions you have,

As you know, Spiralicious is a firmer hold styling gel that has been very strongly requested by Jessicurl customers and works really well for all types of curls. It has been embraced by our customers since its launch late last year and has quickly become our single top selling item.

For more info about it, check out my original blog post here.

We have let our European wholesale accounts know that they can order Spiralicious from us now and of course you are also welcome and able to order it directly from us here.

I know it’s been difficult for our European customers to wait for Spiralicious to get certified in the E.U. over the last several months while we’ve gone on and on about how great it is (OMG it’s so great!!), so I’m stoked that now everybody on the planet can finally get their hands on some. :-)

New Availability For Jessicurl.

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 09:46 -- Jess

I wanted to make you all aware about a recent decision we made regarding the availability of Jessicurl products in the U.S.A.   As you all know we are sold around the world through salons, beauty supply stores, many websites, distributors, as well as some natural food stores.

In fact, my hometown natural foods store Nature Select Foods in St. Helena, California was the first retail store to carry my products… and they still carry us :)  Even with all that, one of the most common requests we receive from our customers is to open a retail store near them, in their hometown.

You all like buying from us directly and online, but you also want the option of finding us in your favorite salon or retail store nearby.  We have been careful in trying to be fair to our existing retail outlets and also to all our customers when making Jessicurl available in new places.

We have been purposeful when walking  that line between taking care of all of you: our salons, consumers, websites, etc.    Sometimes those two goals can rub up against each other.  If Jessicurl is available everywhere, it may be difficult for our favorite salon to support it.  We get that.  On the other hand, if it’s available everywhere, our customers really like that.  We get that too.

Curly Hair Artistry Group names Spiralicious Product Of The Year!

Thu, 02/20/2014 - 13:00 -- Jess

The Curly Hair Artistry (CHA) group is a collective of dedicated, passionate curly hair stylists over the globe that learn from each other about cutting techniques, styling and products.

It was formed January 21 2013 by Scott Musgrave with the intention of leading the industry with advanced art, methods and business that relate to the craft of working with all types of Wavy/Curly & Multi Textural Hair.

It has grown into a large private Facebook group where the stylists share tips, but there is also a public Facebook page where you can learn from them as well.

This group is dedicated to offering their clients only the best products, and as such have found a friend in Jessicurl. :) Many of the stylists in CHA now use Jessicurl products and they and their clients are all much happier for it.

This week we were honored and thrilled to learn that the CHA has named our new Spiralicious Styling Gel their Product Of The Year for 2013!

This is an amazing honor, as these folks know their curly hair products and are entrusted with thousands of heads of curls. They’re smart though – they know a great product when they see it! :)

Thank you, CHA, for your passion for curly hair and for recognizing Jessicurl and Spiralicious.

We love you all! :)

Interview With Wendy Wolfe, Curl Specialist

Tue, 01/28/2014 - 15:35 -- Jess

I’m excited to bring you another installment in our ongoing feature of interviews with curl specialists that carry Jessicurl. :) There really is a major uptick in stylists specializing in curly hair lately and we’re proud to be expanding the number of salons and beauty supply stores where you can buy Jessicurl. Today I’m featuring Wendy Wolfe of Cedar Park, TX.

How long have you been in business?

I have almost 20 years experience doing hair.

Where are you located?

I am in Cedar Park, TX right outside of Austin.

What made you go into the hair business?

I had a cousin and an Aunt who did hair when I was growing up and I knew then, that this is what I wanted to do. I started with my Barbie Dolls. :)

If you specialize in curly hair, what made you adopt that focus?

I started specializing in curly hair because I had clients tell me how hard it was to find someone to do their curly hair. I love doing curly hair it is an art form all on its own.

(Check out these amazing before and after pics of Wendy's handy work! :) )

What changes have you seen in relation to curly hair in the last 10 years?

In the past 10 years there have been more products like Jessicurl out to help with caring for curly hair. Curls are looking better and better with these products. Spreading the word on how to take care of and style curly hair is my job and I love it!

How did you first hear about Jessicurl?

Video of my TEDx talk: Your Unknown Impact

Wed, 01/22/2014 - 15:13 -- Jess

As I mentioned in a blog post back in November, I was recently honored to be asked to do a TEDx talk at our local TEDx Youth At Humboldt Bay event. I’m SUPER stoked that I can now share the video of my talk with you.

I do a lot of public speaking, and it’s always about Jessicurl. Not this time! :) In fact, Jessicurl doesn’t come up in my talk at all.

My talk is called Your Unknown Impact and seeks to remind viewers that those seemingly inconsequential interactions you have with people can sometimes have long-lasting impacts that you often never find out about.

It’s 9 minutes long and I can honestly say I have never prepared more for any other public speaking I’ve ever done. I very much enjoyed the challenge of writing and preparing for the talk but more importantly, I’m grateful to have been reminded of the two stories told in it. We forget that we have an impact on each other with every interaction, and sometimes a conversation that means nothing to you means the world to someone else.

I’d love for you to watch my talk. Thank you for taking the time.

Interview With Curl Master Mary MacDonald of Gossips Hairstylists in Toronto, Ontario.

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 11:50 -- Jess

As Jessicurl continues to grow, so too does the list of salons around the globe that carry us. Yay for that! I love talking curly hair and promoting the curl-positive salons that support us, and I especially love it when they’re Canadian. :) Today I’m featuring Mary MacDonald of Gossips Hairstylists in Toronto. The small-world twist is that she’s located in the same neighbourhood where my dad worked for years. Too bad they didn’t overlap, eh? My dad could have gone there when he ran out of his precious Confident Coils. :-) Ok, let’s get on with the interview, eh?

How long have you been in business?

I’ve been in the business for just over 31 years, owned the first Gossips Hairstylists Inc. from 1987-1995, and then wanted to just rent a chair so I could concentrate solely on honing my craft!

I opened up this incarnation of Gossips Hairstylists Inc. last August 2012 by popular demand from all of my wonderful clients!

Where are you located?

I am at 3037 Dundas Street West,

Dundas and High Park,

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

What made you go into the hair business?

It wasn’t anything I consciously thought of, believe it or not. I accidentally stumbled into the business!

I had quit my job as a manger in a huge retail chain at the ripe age of 19 after working with them for four years. I wanted to just go out and try anything and see where it led me. There was a recession at that time, so the very few ads for jobs were shrouded in mystery. You had no idea what you were applying for, nor to whom you were sending your resume!

Please vote for Jessicurl in NaturallyCurly.com's Best Of The Best Awards!

Mon, 12/09/2013 - 13:36 -- Jess

It’s that time of year again! That magical time when NaturallyCurly.com hosts its Best Of The Best awards and you all get to vote for your favorite curly hair products.

In years past you’ve really made your voice heard that you LOVE Jessicurl products, and I’m politely requesting that you do the same this year. :-) (I’m Canadian. We’re a very polite people. :-) )

You can find the survey at this link. It very clearly states that your answers should specify brand and product, not just brand OR product. So if your favorite shampoo is our Hair Cleansing Cream, you need to put “Jessicurl Hair Cleansing Cream”, not just “Jessicurl” or “Hair Cleansing Cream.”

If our new Spiralicious Styling Gel is YOUR new favorite, please let the curly world know! :-) The best part is you could totally win free stuff from NaturallyCurly.com by entering!

So, please, I’d very much appreciate if you took a minute or two to complete the survey and let the other curlies know how much you love Jessicurl. :-) Thank you!! :)

Let's talk about tattoos for a minute.

Thu, 11/21/2013 - 13:42 -- Jess

You may have noticed that over the last year or so, I’ve accumulated a couple more tattoos. Seeing as they didn’t just accidentally show up there in my sleep (I’m a very light sleeper), I figured I’d explain some of my reasoning behind it. I know that people have a wide variety of opinions on tattoos, especially on women, and I wanted to explain why I personally went from having very few to much more visible ones.

You may recall that on the 10th anniversary of Jessicurl, I got the Jessicurl Logo Lady tattooed on my upper arm. That was my 3rd. I got my first one when I was 17, but not for the reasons you might think. I wasn’t trying to rebel against my conservative parents or any of that. (If you know my parents, you’re DYING laughing right now.)  In fact, I was SO well behaved that my father was genuinely worried about me, and would give me lectures when I’d, in his mind, pass up the opportunity to do something “normal-kid-bad”, like stay out late or whatever. So in order to prove that I COULD do something out of character, I got that tattoo. I went by myself to get it; it wasn’t like a big fun trip with the girls or whatever everyone else was doing in 1993.

Anyway. I got my second when I was 20 and really didn’t think I’d get any others until the idea struck to get my logo on my 10th Jessicurl anniversary. That just made sense. I loved it. As before, I really didn’t think I’d get any others. Famous last words.
