Curly Chronicles: Dan Davis

Thu, 10/11/2012 - 08:36 -- Jess

September 4th was Jessicurl's 10 year anniversary so we're drawing the celebration out. :) One way is by doing a series of Curly Chronicle Blog posts featuring Jessicurl customers I've come to know and love over the years. :) (Ok, there are several people featured in the series that I've not met in person, but I still love them! :) )

I’ve known Dan and his wife Jessica for about 2 or so years now. They live here in Humboldt County, CA where I do, and in the last year I’ve gotten to know them better as friends. They are AWESOME people, and NOT just because of their curly hair. :) (We joke that I’ll be able to retire someday because of how much hair they have, and can you imagine if they ever had KIDS?!?! :-)

I love Dan’s story because it gives us a guy’s perspective on his curls that we don’t often get to hear. I think it’s awesome that he has grown it long and curly and takes such good care of it. :) He and Jess are strong, vocal supporters of Jessicurl and I really appreciate that. Thanks so much, Dan, for letting me feature you here, and thank YOU Jess, for setting him straight on his curls back when you met him. :) Y’all are just too cute. :)

Dan Davis and Jessicurl

Your name: Dan Davis

Number of years using Jessicurl products:  4

Tell me about your curly hair journey. Did you always have curly hair, or like many of us, did it go curly at a certain point in your life?

I’ve always had some curls, but my hair went way curly in my late teens.

When you were a kid, let’s say, under the age of 12, how did you feel about your hair? Did you get along with it?

I think, like most boys, I hardly knew I had hair when I was under the age of twelve. I did get along with it however, I kept it pretty short.

Did that relationship change at all during your adolescent years?

Yep, I began to hate it! My hair began to have a mind of its own. My solution was to keep it really short. I even wore a crew cut for a while.

If you fought with your curly hair for a portion of your life, at what age/point in your life did you decide to embrace your naturally curly hair?

I finally accepted and embraced my curls in my early 20’s. My hair became a way to express myself. Perhaps the best incentive to embrace my hair was when girls started to notice my curls. I was becoming a hippie.  A hippie with long curly hair!

How did the people in your life react to that decision?

They hardly noticed.

If you always loved and accepted your curls, is there someone in your life that you feel was helpful in helping you with that? If you had to accept them later in life, is there someone who you feel was helpful in accepting/loving your curls then?

My sister, who is not curly at all, was very helpful. She gave me some clues and product to get me going.

When, and in what context did you first hear of Jessicurl?

I met a girl named Jessica (not the famous Jessicurl) and she had amazing curly hair. We started dating and I quickly realized she had stuff in her bathroom that had the word “curl” in its name. I started asking questions.

What made you decide to try Jessicurl the first time?

My girlfriend at the time, now my wife, all but insisted that I give this stuff a try. I have never regretted taking her advice, she is a curl genius.

What did the packaging look like when you first used Jessicurl? How did that affect your opinion of it?

I don’t really remember it being any different, though it probably was.

Clearly, since you’re being featured on my blog, you liked the products and have continued to use them. :) What was different about them and what made you keep coming back to them?

What kept me coming back? Results! With curls consistency is everything, if you’re not using the same stuff you’re not going to get the same results. So when I started consistently using Jessicurl and getting the same result, I was hooked.

How has your relationship with your hair changed or evolved during your time using Jessicurl products?

I love my hair now. In the past it was a pain and often lived in a pony tail, now it flows freely and is easy to care for.

Please tell me whatever else you’d like me to know about you and your hair and your experience with it.
